How the Treatment Works
Kybella® is made of Deoxycholic Acid, a naturally occurring molecule in the body that helps break down and absorb dietary fat. When injected into the fat under the chin, it performs Adipocytolysis—the destruction of the fat cell membrane. Once those cells are destroyed, they can no longer store or accumulate fat. Your body’s natural metabolic process then clears the cellular debris over several weeks, resulting in a visible and permanent reduction in fullness and a sharper, more youthful jawline.

When injected into the fat beneath the chin, Kybella destroys the cell membrane of the fat cells. Once those cells are destroyed, they can no longer store or accumulate fat. Your body’s lymphatic system then naturally processes and flushes out the cellular debris over several weeks.
Yes. Once the fat cells are destroyed, they are gone for good. However, it is important to maintain a stable weight; while the destroyed cells can’t return, the remaining fat cells in the area can still expand if you gain significant weight.

ybella is best for people with moderate fat and good skin elasticity. > Warning: Kybella destroys fat, but it does not tighten skin. If your double chin is caused by loose, sagging skin (“turkey neck”) rather than fat, Kybella may actually make the sagging look more prominent.
While rare, there is a risk of nerve injury in the jaw which can cause an uneven smile or trouble swallowing. These typically resolve on their own within a few weeks but should be performed by a highly trained medical professional to avoid the marginal mandibular nerve.
